Gaining new levels

o   When traveling through the world, characters may find tomes of knowledge, combat treatises, & martial manuscripts.

o   A character can study the secrets hidden an ancient tome or perform the martial exercises outlined in a treatise to gain a new level.

o   Doing so often requires completion of an arduous trial or finding a rare item

• • • • • Very occasionally, a rare scrap of lore or combat technique might also grant a new ability or spell to your character 

Identifying Magic Items

Because arcane practitioners became so persecuted. Magic items are exceedingly rare compared to previous eras in Faerun's history. When you encounter a magic item, a character proficient in either arcana or history can attempt to discern it's secrets. 

Higher rarity items require use of the identify scroll.
